The 8 Best AEW Signings Of 2024, Ranked
Over the last several years, AEW have been criticized for signing too many wrestlers and making the roster too congested, with some struggling for a spot. In 2024, it feels as though AEW took a step back in terms of mass signings, although they have still made several additions. Not everyone has been an absolute hit, but there have been certain standouts that should be considered among the best.
AEW has been the home to many different factions. The following groups have unfortunately overstayed their welcome in AEW, losing their importance.
The following wrestlers have made the most positive impact to the AEW roster out of the new additions, providing the most in terms of quality, star power, depth, entertainment, and more.
MxM's First AEW Match In 2024 |
AEW Win/Loss Record In 2024 |
---|---|
MxM vs. FTR (AEW Collision 07/27/2024) |
1-8 |
The duo of Mace and Mansoor arrived in AEW, bringing their model gimmick to the company and it has been allowed to truly thrive. Although they have mostly been in the undercard on AEW’s lesser important shows and don’t get a chance to showcase their talents on Dynamite, they have still managed to become very over with fans on whatever show they appear on.
They have provided a lot of personality and a distinct gimmick to the AEW roster at a time when the company has really needed more of it.
Ricochet's First AEW Match In 2024 |
AEW Win/Loss Record In 2024 |
---|---|
Casino Gauntlet (AEW All In 2024) |
9-5-1 |
Ricochet’s AEW career has certainly been up and down so far, but when he gets more comfortable he will likely be a very valuable asset, much like he was to the midcard division of WWE. His matches have been hit and miss, but for instance his WrestleDream 2024 match with Will Ospreay and Konosuke Takeshita showed just how good he can be.
He is a recognisable name thanks to his time in WWE, he will likely never have a bad match, and AEW can give him an opportunity to try out more characters and potentially even a heel turn, which has been teased. 2025 will be better, but in terms of 2024’s signings, he is still among AEW’s best.
Hologram's First AEW Match In 2024 |
AEW Win/Loss Record In 2024 |
---|---|
Hologram vs. Gringo Loco (AEW Collision 07/20/2024) |
14-0 |
Hologram emerged after some cryptic vignettes hyped up his debut, and the masked star has become a staple part of AEW Collision over 2024. He has gradually built himself up on his in-ring work alone, steadily getting more and more popular thanks to his strong matches.
His feud with The Beast Mortos was entertaining, and he looks set to have a promising career going forwards. He hasn’t done anything groundbreaking thus far, but he is still no doubt among the best signings of 2024 for AEW.
Mercedes Mone's First AEW Match In 2024 |
AEW Win/Loss Record In 2024 |
---|---|
Mercedes Mone vs. Willow Nightingale (AEW Double Or Nothing 2024) |
11-0 |
Not everyone has been entirely convinced by Mercedes Mone in AEW thus far, but there have still been some positives. Her matches with the likes of Willow Nightingale, Stephanie Vaquer and Kris Statlander have been among the best women’s divisions bouts of 2024, and in terms of those on the roster, she does get better presentation than most.
The following improvements could be implemented to elevate AEW's Continental Classic Tournament and make it a bigger deal.
She has added star power, and if AEW manages to get her booking right, then she will become a very important part of the AEW roster. Even though things have been slow, some of her feuds have been poor, and there has been a lot of criticism directed her way, she is still one of AEW’s best acquisitions in 2024.
Kazuchika Okada's First AEW Match In 2024 |
AEW Win/Loss Record In 2024 |
---|---|
The Elite vs. Enhancement Talent (AEW Collision 03/07/2024) |
15-9-2 |
Kazuchika Okada was sought after by both AEW and WWE, so AEW’s signing of him elevates him higher up the list. Okada has been very entertaining in everything he has done, becoming a heel character with so much attitude and comedic timing since joining The Elite. His matches have also mostly impressed, especially during his Continental Title reign.
Much like Mercedes Mone, Okada’s time in AEW has been underwhelming for some who expected him to be higher up the card and presented more like a special attraction, but he is still someone who is great any time he is on screen, fitting in well with the company.
The Beast Mortos' First AEW Match In 2024 |
AEW Win/Loss Record In 2024 |
---|---|
The Beast Mortos vs. Rey Fenix (AEW Collision 04/27/2024) |
10-21 |
The Beast Mortos has not been a title contender or someone who is likely to climb the ranks and become the face of the company, but he is still one of AEW’s best signings of 2024 by far.
Mortos’ in-ring work has been stellar, becoming one of the most entertaining parts of weekly AEW television, regardless of whether he wins or loses. Additionally, he has one of the most striking and unique looks ever seen in AEW. 2024 has been a very solid year, and given his growing connection with the crowd, he could be an even bigger deal in 2025.
Hurt Syndicate's First AEW Match In 2024 (all members) |
AEW Win/Loss Record In 2024 (all members) |
---|---|
Shelton Benjamin vs. Lio Rush (AEW Dynamite 10/16/2024) |
7-1 |
Bobby Lashley, Shelton Benjamin and MVP brought the Hurt Syndicate to AEW, reuniting a faction that many wanted to see in WWE. MVP’s mic work has been fantastic since arriving, Bobby Lashley has looked dominant in the glimpses fans have seen, but perhaps the standout has been Shelton Benjamin.
After infrequent in-ring work for a little while due to not being used in WWE, Benjamin has been world class between the ropes, looking as good as he ever has done. AEW haven’t done much wrong with The Hurt Syndicate thus far, but fans will be hoping for even more in 2025.
Will Ospreay's First AEW Match In 2024 |
AEW Win/Loss Record In 2024 |
---|---|
Will Ospreay vs. Konosuke Takeshita (AEW Revolution 2024) |
22-8-1 |
Will Ospreay has been AEW’s best signing of the year, making himself right at home on TV with strong mic work, a great connection with the fans, and producing more match of the year candidates than anyone against the likes of Bryan Danielson at Dynasty, PAC at All Out, MJF on Dynamite, and more.
He has wrestled very frequently, won the International Championship twice, elevated other names like Swerve Strickland and Kyle Fletcher, and main evented several events too. Everything he has done in 2024 has been great, and he feels like one of AEW’s biggest stars today.
