Chelsea have confirmed that academy graduate Lewis Hall has completed a permanent transfer to Premier League rivals Newcastle United this summer after his loan spell on Tyneside last season.

The Magpies will fork out £28 million for the full-back, who has been in the Chelsea academy since under-8 level. The deal means a significant profit for the Blues amid Premier League Profit and Sustainability pressures at the end of the financial year.

Hall made 22 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side last year, including a Champions League outing against Borussia Dortmund in November. The England under-21 international bagged two goals in those matches.

The 19-year-old has made 12 first team appearances for Chelsea, earning his debut in an FA Cup win over Chesterfield in January 2022. He is a lifelong Magpies supporter despite growing up in Berkshire with his family coming from the North East.

Taking to social media on Monday, Chelsea wrote: “Chelsea can confirm Academy graduate Lewis Hall has completed a permanent transfer to Newcastle United. Wishing you all the best for your future career, Lewis.”

Speaking to the Magpies as the deal was announced, Hall said: “I am extremely proud to be able to build on last season and continue my journey at Newcastle United. The fans, the manager and his staff, my teammates and everyone at the club have made me feel so welcome that I want to repay the faith they’ve shown in me.

“When you pull on the black and white shirt, there is no feeling like it and playing in front of the best supporters in the country is extra special for me being a Toon fan. I gained a lot of experience last season, and with the squad we have, we’ll be looking to push on even further this season. I can’t wait to get started.”
