The Marshall ISD Board of Trustees was recently named as the Region 7 Outstanding School Board by the Texas Association of School Administrators.

The Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) selected 14 Texas school district boards of trustees as regional nominees for the 2024 TASA School Board Awards. As the Region 7 winner, the MISD Board of Trustees will be considered for the top 5 finalists to be announced in August, before the Outstanding School Board will be named in September.

Established in 1971, the School Board Awards Program from TASA is aimed at recognizing school boards who display dedication and ethical service to create a positive impact on the students of their districts. Last year, the Corsicana ISD Board of Trustees earned the 2023 Outstanding School Board award, with the selection committee commending their work throughout several years to benefit their district.

The selection process includes a committee made up of five TASA members in the region, including the TASA Executive Committee member to both select the regional nominees as well as the finalists and the winner of the Outstanding School Board award.

Marshall ISD was nominated by Superintendent Richelle Langley, and the current Board of Trustees members for the district include President Brad Burris, Assistant Secretary Bettye Fisher, Vice President Ted Huffhines, with Trustees Cathy Marshall, Rudy Medina, Chase Palmer and Lee Lewis.

The Outstanding School Board award winner is set to be named on Sept. 27 at the txEDCON24 TASA|TASB Convention held this year in San Antonio.
