Dutch Forward Agrees to Move to Old Trafford

Manchester United have received the green light from Joshua Zirkzee to proceed with a deal to bring the Bologna striker to Old Trafford, according to reports.

The Red Devils are eager to sign a new striker in the summer transfer window to ease the goalscoring burden on Rasmus Hojlund and Marcus Rashford next season. Last term, Hojlund and Rashford scored a combined 17 Premier League goals, highlighting the team’s struggles in front of goal.

Zirkzee, who has been identified as United’s top striker target, has a €40m (£34m) release clause in his contract with Bologna. The 23-year-old Dutchman impressed last season with 11 goals and four assists in 34 Serie A appearances, drawing interest from clubs across Europe.

Reports suggest that Man Utd have moved to the front of the queue to sign Zirkzee, reaching an agreement with his agent and the player himself. According to Corriere di Bologna:

“The latest developments indicate a certain farewell, with the striker ready to join Manchester United. The club has apparently reached an agreement with the player’s agent regarding commissions and convinced the 23-year-old about his role in the technical project.”

It was even reported that United’s coach Erik Ten Hag personally contacted Zirkzee to persuade him to join, overcoming his initial hesitation about joining a team with a strong attacking lineup.

Caught Offside also confirmed that Zirkzee has agreed to personal terms with Man Utd, while noting Arsenal’s interest in the striker. However, it appears Zirkzee has prioritized a move to Old Trafford over any potential offers from the Gunners. AC Milan were also interested but have shifted their focus to other targets, recognizing that United are leading the race for Zirkzee.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth provided an update on the situation, stating:

“United are prepared to meet the release clause, and the fact that talks are continuing suggests there is a strong openness for the move to happen.”
