Spanish giant, FC Barcelona are planning to send striker Vitor Roque out on loan this summer to speed up his adaptation to the rigours of La Liga.

Prior to his January transfer, Barcelona and the 19-year-old player from Athletico Paranaense in Brazil agreed to a contract last summer for an initial transfer fee of €30 million (£26 million/$32 million). Although he has since made frequent appearances for the Catalan team, Roque has primarily served as Robert Lewandowski’s backup and replacement.

Barca wants to put Roque’s development first, and they’re looking to loan him out for the upcoming season, according to The Athletic. In an ideal world, Xavi would like him to join another elite team in Spain so he can get used to the pace and style of La Liga.

Xavi was asked about Roque’s future recently and admitted he will sit down with the player and his family to discuss his next steps. He said: “We will sit down to see what is best for each player. It’s not easy to come from Brazil, to adapt at 18, to make a difference at Barca. He needs time, minutes, and maybe more confidence. He is capable of playing for Barca for a long time. At the end of the season, we will decide.”

According to a report by The Athletic, many people didn’t know what to anticipate from Roque when he came in January. According to sources, players noticed potential for progress right away from the young Brazilian, who found it difficult to train with the best. Now that he is a full international for Brazil, Roque still has a lot of unrealized potential and a long career ahead of him. A brief departure from Barcelona’s spotlight and attention might be the ideal next move for his budding career.
