The Borno State Police Command confirmed on Tuesday the tragic death of Prof. Ruth Wazis, who previously served as the Head of the Department of Business Management at the University of Maiduguri. 

According to the police commissioner, Yusuf Lawal, the incident occurred on Sunday at her residence.

Lawal detailed that Prof. Ruth Wazis was parking her car in the garage when an unexpected mechanical malfunction caused the vehicle to suddenly accelerate. 

A security analyst, Zagazola Makama reported that the sudden movement knocked her to the ground, resulting in serious injuries to her chest. 

Despite immediate efforts to rush her to the hospital, she tragically succumbed to her injuries before medical assistance could be fully administered.

Commissioner Lawal further explained that members of Prof. Wazis' family promptly transported her remains to the hospital following the accident.

The entire University of Maiduguri community has been thrown into mourning over the loss of the distinguished academic leader.
