Reigning African Games and African Championships champion, Ese Brume has given reasons why she pulled out of tomorrow’s Meeting de Paris, which is the eighth leg of the 2024 Diamond League.

Brume was included in the first list of confirmed athletes for the event billed to hold at the Charléty stadium in Paris.

Speaking with The Guardian, yesterday, the Delta State-born long jumper explained that she decided to pull out to avoid picking injury, adding that she had been in rehabilitation for sometime now.

“I have been undergoing rehabilitation for sometime now, and I couldn’t train well” she said. “I only managed to make the trip to the 2024 African Senior Athletics championships in Douala, Cameroon, and she I returned, I have to continue with my training to be in good shape for the Olympics.”

Brume was not in the updated list released yesterday, two days to the competition.

Brume missed the opening leg of the event at the Suzhou Diamond League meeting in Suzhou, China in April due to visa issues.

Last year in Eugene, Oregon, USA, Brume made history as the first field eventer to compete in the Diamond League final. She was denied the chance to make another piece of history as the first Nigerian in the field event to be crowned a Diamond League champion when she lost the gold medal on countback to reigning world champion, Ivava Vuleta despite both jumping 6.85m.
