Students under the aegis of the National Association of Nigerian Students and the National Association of Ogun State Students have said that the reconstruction of Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta will boost the national economy and bring a lot of relief to both motorists and commuters plying the road.

Both NANS and NAOSS have therefore hailed Governor Dapo Abiodun on the efforts of his administration to fix the deplorable road belonging to the Federal Government in the state.

The students disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Saturday and signed by the Chairman of NANS, Ogun State, Adeyanju Francis and the National President of NAOSS, Kehinde Thomas.

They said that the governor’s persistent efforts in ensuring that the Lagos-Sango-Abeokuta Expressway is rehabilitated showed that he is feeling the agonies of commuters on the road.

The groups particularly commended the governor for his recent on-the-spot assessment of the Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta Expressway, where he attributed bureaucratic bottlenecks to the delay in the reconstruction of the road.

The students pointed out that Abiodun cannot be held liable for the deplorable condition of this road, especially when his efforts in the past to make the FG cede the road to Ogun state for reconstruction failed.

They argued that “rather than being blamed, the governor should be lauded for his resilience to trudge on and eventually got the nod of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led administration to embark on the reconstruction of the important road.

While urging the people of Ogun to continue to support the incumbent administration in the state, the student bodies expressed optimism “that the suffering of commuters on the expressway will soon be over with the governor disclosing that the contract for the reconstruction of the road had been signed in May.

“We are also sure that when this road is completed as promised by the governor, it will not only give impetus to the economic wellbeing of the state, but that of the nation and of course serve as a big boost to our national economy”.

On the reconstruction of the 20-kilometre Agbara-Lusada-Atan road, the associations commended the state government on the level of work done so far on the industrial road.

They added that the governor’s statement that the road would be completed in September further reinforced the confidence of students in his ability to walk his talk, especially on the infrastructural development of the state.

The students, while calling on the FG to give maximum cooperation to the state government on the reconstruction of the Lagos-Sango Ota-Abeokuta Expressway, have equally charged Abiodun not to be distracted by “armchair critics”, especially on social media, but be focused on his determination to leave the state far better than he met it.
