Chippa United have announced the signing of experienced midfielder Andile Jali as a free agent following his exit from Moroka Swallows last season.

The 34-year-old is set for a return to his home province of the Easter Cape having penned a deal with the Chilli Boys. Jali’s return to football has been a big subject of debate having been out of competitive action since December 2023.

"Chippa United FC is delighted to announce the signing of the prominent, Andile Jali, for the upcoming season. Born in Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, Jali left the province to pursue a successful career in both international and domestic football. He is finally returning to his home province, bringing his wealth of experience and skills to strengthen our squad. Welcome Back To The Eastern Cape Mhlekazi!," announced the club on their official X page on Thursday.

He made 13 appearances for Swallows between August and December. Before that, he had parted ways with Mamelodi Sundowns, where he made 15 appearances in 2022/23.

Jali brings a wealth of experience to a Chippa side looking to break into the Top Eight next term.

The Thabo September and Kwanele Kopo co-coached side finished 12th last season with eight wins from 30 matches. They also went as far as the semi-finals of the Nedbank Cup, falling to eventual champions Orlando Pirates.

They ended the season with 34 points, just four more than Richards Bay FC, who only survived the drop by winning the PSL Promotional/Relegation Play-Offs.

Chippa have also released as many 18 players ahead of the new campaign, including Luvoyo Memela and Khanyisile Mayo. Two among those on that bloated list are set to return to their parent clubs with their loan spells having come to an end.
