A security officer was shot and killed when seven armed suspects stormed the Sasol fuel station in Rietfontein on Wednesday morning and bombed an ATM.
According to police spokesperson Constable Ben Moabi, seven armed suspects wearing balaclavas entered the fuel station on Van der Hoff Road in the early morning hours and shot and killed a security officer in his vehicle. The robbers divided into two groups, targeting the ATM and kiosk simultaneously. “They broke a window in the kiosk, held the cashier and petrol attendant at gunpoint and demanded money and cellphones while the other group bombed the ATM. It is unclear at this stage if the suspects could retrieve money from the ATM. They fled on foot and are still at large,” Moabi said.
Hartbeespoort police were on the scene soon after the robbery.
