Chelsea’s new head coach officially started working for the club on 1 July.

Enzo Maresca, 44, is the latest man to sit in the dugout at Stamford Bridge and take on this huge role.

The Italian’s been appointed following last year’s success in the Championship, guiding Leicester City to the league title and promotion.

His success with Leicester followed the blueprint of possession-based football, which is no real surprise when you factor in he’s a former assistant coach under Pep Guardiola.

What Chelsea’s players have done in training so far

BBC Sport claims that the formal date for Chelsea’s pre-season to start is 8 July, but there’s already some players popping up at Cobham to get an early start.

It is understood that Tosin Adarabioyo, Ben Chilwell and Trevoh Chalobah are among the Blues stars to turn up early for pre-season.

The report explains that Maresca started work on Monday and the training sessions so far have been ‘informal fitness work’ as he settles into a new environment.

Chelsea do have a pre-season tour on the horizon, but it’s worth noting that a number of individuals are currently away representing their countries at international tournaments.

What to expect from Enzo Maresca

In a short space of time, Maresca turned Leicester from a counter-attacking team into one that dominates the ball.

It’s still too early to know what he’s got planned with this Chelsea group, but one guess is that he’ll set them up tactically to keep possession and play out patiently from the back. In particular, expect the goalkeeper to play a key role with the ball at his feet.

The signing of midfielder Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall this week from Leicester means Chelsea’s head coach will have a player in the ranks that understands his philosophy inside out.

It’s going to be interesting to see how Chelsea takes shape this summer under yet another new voice.
