Megyn Kelly slammed ‘weak’ CNN host Kasie Hunt following her meltdown over claims that the network’s upcoming presidential debate moderators may be ‘biased.’ The former Fox News anchor took aim at Hunt on her show this week, saying she ’embarrassed womankind’ with her public outcry.
‘She embarrassed female journalists, and she embarrassed CNN,’ Kelly said. ‘Her timidity rang through loud and clear, she was shaking.’ Kelly’s remarks came days after Trump campaign spokesperson Karoline Leavitt was unceremoniously booted off of Hunt’s show when she argued moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash won’t treat Trump ‘fairly’ in Thursday’s debate .
Hunt sparked backlash this week following her hostile segment with Leavitt, where they clashed over upcoming presidential debate, which will be hosted by CNN. The CNN anchor took offense to Leavitt bringing up past instances of Tapper and Bash appearing to side against Trump in their coverage, which the Trump staffer said was evidence he may be in for tougher treatment than President Biden.
Leavitt was hastily cut off the air as she weighed in, leaving her to note afterwards that the incident ‘just proves our point that President Trump will not be treated fairly in Thursday’s debate.’ ‘CNN cutting off my microphone for bringing up a debate moderator’s history of anti-Trump lies just proves our point that President Trump will not be treated fairly in Thursday’s debate,’ she said.
‘Yet President Trump is still willing to go into this 3-1 fight to bring his winning message to the American people, and he will win.’ Kelly took a similar tone as she weighed in on the confrontation this week, where she said that Hunt’s ‘effort to play the tough guy was immediately seen through.’
‘The moderators are 100 percent subject to criticism, and if she doesn’t know that, she’s in the wrong business,’ Kelly continued. ‘She could have easily handled this by saying, I understand, nevertheless your boss thought this was an appropriate forum for a debate – so let’s talk about that.’
Kelly offered advice for Hunt for future clashes with conservative voices, saying she should instead try to ‘maintain your cool (and) your dignity.’ ‘You embarrassed Jake Tapper too, and Dana Bash, who don’t need your defense, I’m sure they would have been fine if you hadn’t gone out there.’ Following her headline-making argument with Leavitt, Hunt also took to social media in the aftermath to defend her actions and insist her colleagues must be ‘respected.’
‘You come on my show, you respect my colleagues. Period. I don’t care what side of the aisle you stand on, as my track record clearly shows,’ she wrote on X. And CNN is standing by its moderators. ‘Jake Tapper and Dana Bash are well respected veteran journalists who have covered politics for more than five decades combined,’ a CNN spokesperson told DailyMail.com.
‘They have extensive experience moderating major political debates, including CNN’s Republican Presidential Primary Debate this cycle. ‘There are no two people better equipped to co-moderate a substantial and fact-based discussion and we look forward to the debate on June 27 in Atlanta.’
