In what is being called “a high risk arrest,” an allegedly armed fugitive who escaped from a Connecticut Department of Correction halfway house earlier this month was taken into custody, police said.

The Bridgeport Police Patrol Division and Emergency Services Unit on Thursday arrested the man who allegedly escaped from a halfway house in New Haven, police said.

Juwaun Terry, 27, of Stratford, was taken into custody after he allegedly fled from the second-floor rear door of a multi-family house on Highland Avenue in Bridgeport at about 6 a.m., Thursday, June 27, police said.

At the time of his arrest, Terry was “considered an escapee from state custody,” police said.

Police said officers recovered a  9 millimeter Glock handgun that “Terry discarded in the house before fleeing.” Police also noted that Terry is a convicted felon and is on the State’s Deadly Weapon Offender Registry.

Terry is charged with criminal possession of firearm, possession of a high capacity magazine, violation of the state deadly weapon offender registry, violation of a protective order and interfering with an officer, police said.

Police said Terry was returned to the custody of the state Department of Correction after his arrest and processing at Bridgeport police headquarters.

Police said the circumstances under which officers were called to the house on Highland Avenue remain under investigation and an additional arrest is “expected regarding that portion of the incident.”
