Wike flags off N7bn Kwaita-Yebu 25km road reconstruction

In furtherance of the ongoing effort to ensure rapid development of Abuja rural areas, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT),  Minister, Nyesom Wike yesterday flagged off the reconstruction of  25km Kwaita–Yebu road in Kwali Area Council of the FCT, awarded at the cost of  7 billion Naira.

Wike assured the people of Kwali that the road reconstruction would not be abandoned like others did in the past.

He assured that already 50 percent of the contract sum has been captured in the FCT 2024 budget.

He also reduced the delivery time of the contract from 18 months to 12 months and asked the contractor if can deliver if more money is made available.

“When the people are happy, government is happy.” Wike noted as he flagged off the project. Having been informed that the project has been abandoned twice.

“You lost hope in the past, you didn’t believe that a government will come and work on the road. Mr President said he has come to bring back hope. He has brought back hope.

“For us, it a promise made and promise kept, we will not abandon the road. We are not in the category of those who award contracts and not complete them. In this year’s budget, we’ve provided 50 percent of the funds. Do not lose hope, by this time next year, by the grace of God, I will be here to commission this road”, the he added.

Stressing that rural roads will be equally given priority as city roads, the minister said:“What we are doing in the city, we must doin the rural areas, after all, the people are in the rural areas; the votes cone from the rural areas.”

Earlier, the Etsu of Kwali, Luka Ayedoo Nizassan noted that the Tinubu administration, the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike has restored the hope of his people indeed.

Also, the monarch  recalled that the road was first awarded in 2005 and abandoned after three years and rewarded in 2008, and abandoned again years till Wike came into the scene.

He informed the minister that the road, when completed would link two area councils from Kwali to Abaji and also link Nasarawa State, noting that the road services a lot of farms where yams, cassava, bananas, plantains, beni seed and melon are supplied to residents.

According to him,  the road is of immense benefit to the economy of the people.

While giving an overview of the project,  Coordinator, Satellite Towns Development Department, STDD,  Abdulkadir Zulkiflu, said when completed would be a turning point in the ongoing efforts in improving the FCT rural areas.

Zulkiflu also noted that it was the seventh of flagg off roads in the area council in the over 10 months of Wike in office.

Not left out, Chairman, Kwali Area Council, Dankadi Ajiya was full of joy and praises for the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.
