MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - The 4th of July evening storms brought some hefty rain to many parts of our viewing area.  Training thunderstorms dropped an estimated of more than 2+” to Crawford, Richland, Sauk, and Columbia Counties. Down toward the stateline locally heavy rain was also estimated by radar to be over 2 inches as well in places.

Over the next few days and weeks, rivers will need to be monitored as some continue to rise.  The Baraboo River at Rock Springs is expected to crest on Sunday, the River at Jefferson cresting on Monday, and then the Mississippi River at Guttenberg and Dubuque will stay at moderate and major flood stages respectively all the way into the end of at least next week.

What’s Coming Up...

For today after a cloudy start, more sunshine is in the forecast for the rest of the afternoon. But we’re not yet done with the chance of showers and thunderstorms.  The chance for storms will stay north of Madison, but some isolated storms could still develop for the rest of us.  Overnight skies will clear and temperatures will drop down to near 60.

Looking Ahead...

Saturday will be the pick of the weekend with partly cloudy skies and temperatures making it into the upper 70s.  But unfortunately, showers and storms are back for Sunday when we could see several chances for wet weather throughout the day.  Clouds and showers stay with us into the beginning of the workweek.
