In a successful showcase of talent and dedication, Barnes County 4-H Achievement Days came to a close with 45 active 4-Hers presenting their animals and static exhibits at the prestigious North Dakota Winter Show Event Center from July 8th to 11th.

A Colorful Display of Talent:

The event kicked off on Monday, July 8, with an impressive showcase of 444 static exhibits. A panel of twenty-seven judges meticulously awarded blue, red, white, and Cloverbud ribbons to the participants. The judges also had the tough task of selecting Grand and Reserve champions, along with medal winners. The best of the best were then given the opportunity to enter the highly anticipated Premium Sale, where local businesses and families show their support by purchasing the 4-Her's projects.

Youth Empowerment Through Competitions:

Tuesday, July 9, saw the youth engaging in a Consumer Decision Making Contest (CDM). This particular contest aims to teach youngsters how to make informed decisions based on researched information. The day continued with the judging of the Pets Project Area, featuring small animals such as cats and dogs. Participants were grilled by the judge on various aspects of pet care, basic anatomy, and breed characteristics. The day concluded with the dog show, highlighting obedience, showmanship, and rally competitions, each showcasing the strong bond between participants and their canine companions.

Unleashing Creativity and Skills:

Wednesday, July 10, witnessed 4-H'ers showcasing their talents in a Sewing and Textiles Contest, Project Expo Contest, and a Poultry and Rabbit Show. The 4-H Clothing Revue contest not only builds self-confidence and poise in the youth but also allows them to model garments they have created themselves. The Project Expo Contest provides a platform for youngsters to plan, prepare, and display educational exhibits. The day culminated with the livestock show featuring goats, sheep, swine, dairy, and beef cattle, followed by the thrilling Round Robin event, where the best showmen competed across all species.

Celebrating Success and Gratitude:

Susan Milender, NDSU Extension Educator for Barnes County, lauded the success of the 2024 Achievement Days. She attributed this success to the unwavering dedication of leaders, volunteers, families, as well as the generous support from project sponsors, medal sponsors, and ribbon sponsors. 4-H, a beacon of positive youth development, thrives on the passion of volunteers and the backing of NDSU Extension.
