Biden dealt blow to green energy agenda as judge halts LNG exports ban

Daily Mail Online 2 days ago

Joe Biden's green agenda was dealt a major blow after a Trump-appointed judge issued a temporary block on the Democrat's liquified natural gas (LNG) export permit ban.

LNG advocates, largely Republicans, have decried the White House's move to restrict the critical energy exports while America was dominating the market.

The White House had said they wanted to conduct reviews on how the practice impacts climate before lifting the ban.

On Monday, a federal judge agreed with 16 Republican-led states who argued that the freeze was done 'completely without reason or logic and is perhaps the epiphany of ideocracy.'

A White House spokesperson, meanwhile, said the administration is 'disappointed' with the injunction.

'We remain committed to informing our decisions with the best available economic and environmental analysis, underpinned by sound science,' the spokesperson said.

The US became the worlds top LNG exporter last year, beating out Qatar and Australia.

The Biden administration seems to have taken notice, with the spokesperson being sure to clarify: 'The United States remains the world's largest exporter of LNG, and is currently on track to more than double existing capacity by the end of this decade.'

Cain - who was appointed by former President Donald Trump - said in the injunction the 16 states likely will be able to show the ban unconstitutionally and arbitrarily  went against the Natural Gas Act.

DOE's ban was 'above and beyond its scope of authority,' Cain said.

Cain wrote in his ruling that the DOE failed to consider the ban's 'impact on national security, state revenues, employment opportunities, funding for schools and charities, and pollution allegedly caused by increased reliance on foreign energy sources.'

The agency has said it disagrees with Cain's judgement and will evaluate his order and before making any steps.

'This is a big win for the country's energy industry and the millions of jobs it supports against the attacks from the Biden administration to further its radical climate change agenda at the expense of our economy,' West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey said after the injunction.

Top congressional lawmakers also celebrated the judge's move.

'President Biden's natural gas export ban was among his most damaging policy decisions, and that's saying something,' House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., said Tuesday.

'By prioritizing left-wing environmentalists over the needs of our country, President Biden harmed economic growth in America and empowered our adversaries, particularly Russia.'

'President Biden should know by now, when America leads the world in producing and exporting energy, America's economy, energy security, and allies all benefit.'

Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, a top LNG producing state, also celebrated the blocking of the ban Tuesday.

'Great news -- Biden's disastrous pause on LNG export permitting has been struck down! Unleashing U.S. natural gas creates good jobs, boosts our economy, lowers global emissions, and strengthens U.S. and allies' national security,' he wrote on X.

Another Senate Republican, Sen. Steve Daines, R-Mont., accused Biden of trying to destroy US LNG production.

'Despite claims by [Joe Biden's] admin, this has always been about destroying LNG to appease the climate lobby, so this is great news for the American people.'

Rep. August Pfluger, a Republican from a rural Texas district full of LNG producers, similarly said: 'The judge is right. President Biden's decision to halt LNG export approvals was 'completely without reason or logic.''

'Blocking this bad policy is a win for the industry and the millions of American workers who fuel our nation and allies.'
