The Abia State Health Insurance Agency has expressed displeasure with alleged registration of the affluents for the scheme at the expense of the less-previlledged and vulnerables.

Executive secretary and chief executive officer of the agency, Chiedozie Egwuonwu stated this at a one-day capacity building for local government officers in charge of basic health-care provision programme implementation in the state.

He pledged to change the narrative in line with the current administration’s paradigm shift for accountability and fairness to all and urged the officers to ensure funds for the programme were judiciously used.

In a presentation entitled “Basic Health-care Provision Fund Implementation Protocol”, James Kelechi of the National Health Insurance Agency said the programme was aimed at achiving universal health coverage.

Furthermore, he underlined the need for the use of the programme to reduce maternal motarlity, neonatal, and under-five death rates and other health challenges in the state.

Responding on behalf of other participants, Veronica Maduakolam, assured of their commitment to ensure the success of the programme and probity in the use of the fund.
