Dallas Fire-Rescue responded Saturday morning to the fire in the 1700 block of North Westmoreland Road.

Tall, dark smoke has been filling the sky in West Dallas on Saturday morning as crews battle a fire at a recycling facility.

Dallas Fire-Rescue units were sent just before 9:15 a.m. after a 911 was received for a structure fire in the 1700 block of North Westmoreland Road, near Interstate 30, a spokesman said. Ten units appeared to be responding to the fire, according to an online call list.

No injuries have been reported in connection with the fire and there is no information available on the cause, said Dallas Fire-Rescue spokesman Jason Evans in an emailed statement.

When firefighters got to the location, they saw a “large plume of black smoke” coming from a pile of scrap metal outside of the structure, Evans said. Firefighters contained the fire to the pile it was in, despite being surrounded by other structures.

Evans said about 11 a.m. that personnel on scene believe the fire has been “knocked down significantly,” but are still working to get it completely extinguished.
