There are some matches that make people legends. Moments that destiny puts on display to change their personal or professional life. That is the case with Money in the Bank, which is recognized as one of the star dates in the WWE calendar.

The event has been produced annually since 2010. It gets its name from the Money in the Bank ladder match, a multi-person ladder match in which participants compete for a briefcase containing a contract for a championship match, which they can "cash in" at a time and place of their choosing during the following year.

Originally, this match only took place at WWE's biggest event, WrestleMania, from 2005 to 2010, after which, the concept became standalone as of July of that year.

Since then, it has become one of the company's top five annual events, along with Royal Rumble, WrestleMania, SummerSlam and Survivor Series.

At these events, there have been wrestlers who seized the moment and after stealing the spoils, set their careers on a different course.

Matches and wrestlers that changed history

  • 2011: Daniel Bryan vs Heath Slater vs Justin Gabriel vs Wade Barrett vs Sheamus vs Cody Rhodes vs Sin Cara vs Kane

The 2011 event is considered by many to be the best version of Money in the Bank. And not only because of the two wrestling matches with the stipulation, but also because of the match between John Cena and CM Punk to close the event. One that achieved a five star rating according to the Wrestling Observer.

As far as the briefcase is concerned, the surprise of the night was given by Daniel Bryan on the side of the blue brand. His first big win in the company, the "Goat" would finally redeem his contract against Big Show a couple of months later at TLC.

  • 2008: CM Punk vs. Mr. Kennedy vs Shelton Benjamin vs Chris Jericho vs Carlito vs Montel Vontavious Porter vs John Morrison

CM Punk took the briefcase and cashed it in on the June 30 edition of Raw, when he took advantage of Batista's beating of Edge to win the World Heavyweight Championship.

  • 2013: Damien Sandow vs Wade Barrett vs Cody Rhodes vs Dean Ambrose vs Fandango vs Jack Swagger vs and Antonio Cesaro.

This "Money in the Bank" wrestling had two particularities: a lot of young talent and all heels. In addition, a fight that had everything: the presence of The Shield, the effective alliance of the Real Americans and the virtuosity of Cody, who, however, would be betrayed by his teammate, Sandow, who eventually got the victory.

  • 2013: Randy Orton vs CM Punk vs Daniel Bryan vs Sheamus vs Christian vs Rob Van Dam

The fight that closed the event of 2013 and one of the best in history: all starring and with great journeys in the main roster. Combat that also marked the return of the emblematic hardcore star Rob Van Dam.

Lasting close to 27 minutes, Randy Orton took the top prize, to the disapproval of the audience at the Wells Fargo Center in Pennsylvania. The "Viper" would exchange the briefcase against Bryan at Summerslam.

  • 2005: Edge vs Chris Jericho vs Shelton Benjamin vs Chris Benoit vs Christian vs and Kane

Chris Jericho was the promoter of the fight, proposing the basics to Eric Bischoff. The participants were the most coveted stars, and Edge, after a little more than 15 minutes, managed to unhook the briefcase.

After his victory, the Rated R Superstar retained the prize for 280 days, even defending it against Chris Benoit and Mark Henry. Finally, he would make use of his option at New Years Revolution, defeating an exhausted John Cena, who had just won the Elimination Chamber.
