Uber passenger says driver should be removed after road rage fury

Daily Mail Online 2 days ago

An Uber passenger has called for the rideshare app to remove a driver after a road rage incident led to a 'fight' on the side of a busy motorway.

Andrew and his wife, who wished to remain anonymous, booked the Uber from White Bay to Wynyard while holidaying in Sydney earlier this month.

He claims another motorist sparked the incident after cutting off their driver while they were travelling on the Western Distributor.

Their driver then allegedly started driving erratically, tailgating the other car and  changing lanes to get in front of the driver before stopping and confronting them.

Footage taken by Andrew from the front passenger seat shows the car's engine still running while both men held up morning traffic to argue face-to-face.

'The Uber driver's just fighting in the middle of Sydney ... Get in the car, man,' Andrew can be heard saying.

He claims the driver, after returning to the vehicle, told him that if he 'didn't have passengers, I would have ripped the bloke's fingers off of his hands'.

Despite numerous attempts to contact the rideshare service to complain about the experience, Andrew claims he hasn't received a response.

He said he is concerned for other passengers who get the driver via the app as his actions put him, his family and other road users in danger

'He is not suitable to have passengers in a vehicle,' he told 9News

An Uber spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that the service is 'intended to be a safe and comfortable one for all users' and it 'does not tolerate unsafe behaviour, such as dangerous driving'.

'Users found to have breached our community guidelines may have their access to the Uber app removed,' the spokesperson said.

'We are committed to ensuring we have robust processes and cutting-edge features built into our technology to support the safety of everyone who uses our app.

'We strongly encourage users to report any concerns or incidents during or after every trip.'

They added reviews of driver and passenger reports are 'human-led' and seek to ensure 'users are treated fairly'.
