A COP has been demoted after using city cameras to spy on his wife when he suspected she was having an affair.

Former Lieutenant Ryan Terrell of North Charleston, South Carolina, admitted to using the cameras in April.

He used Verkada security cameras owned by the city to try and catch his wife cheating on him, according to a South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy Notice of Disciplinary Action, reported by CBS affiliate WCSC.

Terrell said he had access to the cameras because he was concerned for his wife’s wellbeing, documents seen by the outlet stated.

However, he intended to use them for another purpose.

Data logs showed the cop used the cameras, which are all over the city, for several days to spy on his wife.

He eventually spotted her with a sergeant in a Target parking lot on April 11, according to the disciplinary action report.

Terrell used the live video feed from the cameras at least three different times, records state.

THE AFTERMATH

After sharing his fury over the findings, Terrell was reported to other officers.

They alleged he threatened to harm a sergeant after learning of his wife’s affair earlier that day while at work, according to the report.

Those officers contacted the Office of Professional Standards on April 11.

Terrell’s wife and the sergeant said they were both safe and did not feel threatened by the cop.

The Chief of Police asked the Office of Professional Standards to interview all three people involved.

During the interview, Terrell admitted to using the cameras to spy on his wife.

It was later determined he did not threaten anyone’s life.

However, it was confirmed Terrell told his wife he would go to jail if he caught her with the sergeant.

Terrell joined the City of North Charleston police force in September 2008.
