Fabrizio Romano reports that Arsenal have agreed terms with Riccardo Calafiori for a five-year deal in north London, valid until June 2029.

Arsenal are now holding negotiations with Bologna over a fee, with the Serie A club asking for €50m (£42.4m).

Romano adds that FC Basel have a sell-on clause worth 50% of the sale over €4.5m, and they’re being kept up to date on negotiations. So if Bologna get the €50m they want, Basel would receive half of the €45.5m profit.

Romano adds that talks with Bologna will continue over the coming days to define the total package, with the deal evidently not done yet. But the player is waiting for that agreement, as he wants to join Arsenal.

Arsenal do have an existing relationship with Bologna, as the Serie A club sold them Takehiro Tomiyasu not too long ago.

Left-footed defender Calafiori made 37 appearances for Bologna in 2023/24. He played every minute of the Euro 2024 group stage for Italy, but his two yellow cards left him suspended for their last-16 defeat to Switzerland.

As well as centre-back, the 22-year-old can also play at left-back. He spent more time in the middle in 2023/24, but he’s spent slightly more time as a full-back in his career as a whole.
