Create cracking memories with the kids this summer with some of these excellent days out in and around the city. From museums to wonderful walking trails, there is lots to do.

Spending time with the kids is a great way to get them off their consoles and ditching their phones, especially if it means doing something entertaining with them.

Glasgow has loads of brilliant things for children to do during the summer, that are great fun and keep little inquisitive minds active.

These range from free activities, to cheap days out and of course those activities that cost a little bit more.

To help we've pulled together a guide of Fun things to do in and around Glasgow with kids this summer holidays.

Free things to do:

The Riverside Museum of Transport

Probably the best free thing for kids to do on this list, home to one of the world's best collections of transport vehicles, interactive displays and of course, the much loved historic Glasgow street scene (complete with cobbles), there is plenty to see and do.

Mount Vernon Gruffalo Trail

The community nature trail and adventure play park within Mount Vernon Park hide a few fun characters from the well-known children's book.

Sticking to the free things to do, the mural trail can be a fun way to navigate the city centre for kids who are interested in art (or even just updating their Instagrams).

You can always mix in some shopping and grabbing a bite to eat too should you need to change things up.

A walk around Cuningar Loop

This exciting woodland park on the banks of the River Clyde has play parks, walking and biking trails and even Scotland's first outdoor bouldering park.

Glasgow Police Museum

This hidden gem of a museum in the Merchant City is a must for any child that loves the police – as well as being fun for true crime-loving parents.

Be warned it's currently in winter hours which means it's open only on Tuesdays (10 am – 4.30 pm) and Sundays (12 pm – 4.30 pm).

Pollok Park

Glasgow’s largest park, Pollok offers various walks and places to explore that are perfect for a wee stretch of the legs in the sun. The park is also home to the world-famous Burrell Collection.

Free family days at the Merchant City Festival

On Saturday (July 20) and Sunday (July 21), Merchant Square will host free family days (11 am-5 pm) featuring family ceilidhs, Bebop Bairns discos, dancers, puppet shows and roaming characters like the multicoloured Prom Pom Queen.

Superhero pop-up at the Glasgow Fort

The 'Spectacular Superhero' pop-up will run until Sunday, August 11, with a meet and greet for heroes like Batman, Wonder Woman and Spider Man taking place near Frankie & Benny’s at 30 minute intervals.

Low-Cost things to do:

Slverburn's Flamingo Beach

Open 10 am-5 pm daily from today (Monday, June 24 until Tuesday, August 20), children can play in the golden sands and build sandcastles in Flamingo Beach located in Silverburn’s main atrium.

Admission to the beach costs £3 per child for 30 minutes, with all proceeds going to Glasgow Children’s Hospital Charity, which will also be selling merchandise to raise much-needed funds.

Scottish Football Museum

If your kids are fans of the beautiful game then a wee visit to the National stadium should be in order and this museum dedicated to Scotland's favourite sport, with exhibitions created in honour of Scotland's greats.

Prices start at £3 per child over 5 (under 5s get in free) or £5 for an added stadium tour (adults are £8 and £13).

Calder Glen Country Park

A massive park with a children's zoo, a tropical glasshouse, ornamental gardens and woodland trails, Calderglen is packed with fun, and don't forget the huge free adventure and toddler Play areas too.

Entry into Zoo and Conservatory costs £1.85 for adults and 95p for children and it's free for under 3s.

Head to Vue Cinemas

For the youngest film fans enjoying some of their favourite their very first outings to the big screen, Vue has introduced Big Shorts screenings, bringing some favourite children’s characters from television shows and web series such as The Gruffalo's Child and Zog and the Flying Doctors to the big screen.

These short and sweets screenings offer a relaxed big screen environment with dimmed lights and reduced sound, tailor-made for younger film fans aged 1 to 4, allowing them to fall in love with the big screen in their very first trips.

Meanwhile, families looking for a value big screen experience can avail of the brand-new Mighty Mornings offering.

This will see films such as Kung Fu Panda 4 and The Present shown across weekends and school holidays this summer from just £2.49 when tickets are purchased online.

Big Feed

As well as plenty of fun games at great prices on offer from Golf It, Big Feed are offering free movies every day of the school holidays at 10.30 am each morning, with free arts and crafts table, board games and colouring in.

Lamont Farm Project

This little farm project is ideal for little wildlife lovers and a great excuse to get them out to see some of the cute animals who have been rescued and rehomed here. It's worth checking ahead to see if they are taking visitors on their Facebook page, with hours running from 10.30 am until 3.30 pm.

They don't charge but do recommend a donation of £1.50 per adult and £1 per child, which goes to help look after the animals here.

Queens Park Arena

This year's programme will once again feature the Cults and Classics free open-air cinema (tickets subject to £0.50 booking fee per person) from July 1 to July 19, offering weekday matinee and evening screenings of everything from Disney and Pixar to sing-a-longs, rom coms and of course cult classics.

There will be a whopping 31 screenings available to book, including 18 family-friendly films and 13 movies suitable for over 18s.

The Science Centre

Making learning fun, the Science Centre is packed full of enjoyable exhibits and activities to keep even the fussiest of children busy.

With prices at £10.50 per child and £12.50 (16 and above), it can be one of the most expensive items on our list but it does mean all-day access with three floors of activities waiting to be discovered.

Open tubing sessions at the Glasgow Ski Centre

A great one for older kids, you get 60 Minutes on the slope with an instructor supervising and as many turns on the tubes as they squeeze into that hour for you.

Open tubing sessions are available on the selected dates throughout the summer, which can be found on the Ski Centre website. For non-members, the sessions cost £12 per person (min age 4.)

Inflatable City

Inflatable Fun City is returning to Victoria Park in the west end and is bringing what they say is 'Europe's Biggest Inflatable' to the city from July 6 to July 21.

The tour will bring inflatable slides, obstacle courses and bouncy castles to the greenspace offering plenty of fun for families.

The event will run from 12pm until 6pm each day, and the price is set at £9.99 for any child attending, and the ticket, which you pay for at the gate, will last you all day and lets children have unlimited free play on all the inflatable attractions for the duration.

Teddy Bear's Picnic at Dobbies

Garden Centre Dobbies is inviting families to roll out the picnic blanket and gather around this summer as it unveils its brand-new event at the Glasgow store, Teddy Bears’ Picnic, where children get to make their very own teddy bear keepsake to take home.

This interactive 90-minute session, taking place during the summer holidays, is designed for families with children aged 3-10 years old and is taking place in the afternoon on Saturday, July 27, Saturday, August 3 and Sunday, August 4 at the Glasgow store.

Tickets are priced at £15.99 for over 3s and £7.99 for under 3s, adult tickets are priced at £7.40. Creating your own teddy bear is only suitable for children over three years old, and under 3s are encouraged to bring their own favourite teddy.
