Report that Gov. Ahmad Aliyu, and Sultan of Sokoto, Abubakar Saad Abubakar’s relation has gone bad has drawn reaction of the latter by proxy.

The proposed amendment of Sokoto State Local Government Law 2008 bordering on stripping Sultan of the power to appoint district and village heads and vesting it only in the governor is construed in some quarters as a ploy to whittle down the influence of the incumbent monarch and eventually dethrone him.

This is rumoured to be the aftermath of a supposed quarrel between the governor and the sitting Sultan.

Reacting to the public conjecture, the Sultanate through Sa’in Kilgori, Dr. Muhammad Jabbi Kilgori, who doubles as district head of Kilgori and council member of the Sultanate, said there is no rift between Aliyu and Abubakar.

Kilgori declared this at the opening of the public hearing on the amendment of the law where in his remark said, “There is no issue between the Sultan and Governor Ahmed Aliyu at all. The Sultanate is ready to operate under any law elected through due process. We have operated under different laws in the past and we are ready to operate under the new law.

“The Sultanate has operated under the law proposed for amendment for the period of 16 years. The Sultanate is ready to work hand in hand with government.”
