Scotland Euros star Kenny McLean makes huge decision on future amid Rangers transfer links
ANY deal involving Kenny McLean moving to Rangers this summer is dead in the water, according to a report.
The Scotland Euros star was the subject of interest from Ibrox, with the player a boyhood Gers fan.
McLean, 32, has two years left on his contract at Norwich City with the option of a further year.
He's a cult hero at Carrow Road and has worn the armband on many an occasion as a deputy for fellow Scot Grant Hanley.
McLean even filled in at centre-back at times for the Canaries last season, showing his worth to David Wagner.
The midfielder would have brought experience to a Rangers engine room that lost John Lundstram and Ryan Jack in the summer, with newcomer Connor Barron a tender 21 years of age.
McLean has never hid his desire to one day play for the Light Blues but as things stand, it looks as far away as ever.
The Rangers Review reports that any potential deal is now off, due to an impasse between what McLean wanted in terms of contract length and what the Ibrox board were prepared to offer.
In any case, Norwich would still have been due a fee which could have been a stumbling block, never mind his wages and his age.
Speaking to the Athletic in 2021, McLean previously said: "I'd be lying if I said it wasn't something I'd want to do. As a kid that's what you want to do, play for your boyhood team.
"Right now, I'm about to play in the Premier League again, so I'm not thinking about it!
"But for me and my family, it would be pretty special. I grew up a Rangers fan, used to go to the games with my dad and as a kid in Glasgow, you support Rangers or Celtic and you want to play for one of them.
"So, I was on the better side."
Meanwhile, one player who does seem to be on his way to Ibrox has posted an emotional goodbye to his current club.
