The presidency has responded to remarks made by Peter Obi, the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, regarding Nigeria’s omission from the Harvard Business School class of 2025. According to Naija News, Nigeria was not included among the sixteen countries selected for the school’s global immersion course.

Peter Obi expressed concern over the impact of this omission on Nigeria’s international reputation and attractiveness to global institutions and investors, citing significant challenges the country faces.

In response, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Engagement, Fredrick Nwabufo, addressed the issue via social media. He clarified that the selection process for Harvard Business School’s Field Global Immersion course is independent of Nigeria’s image.

Nwabufo referenced the institution’s blog, stating, “There is simply no correlation between Harvard Business School’s prerogative of selection in its Field Global Immersion course and Nigeria’s image. The course involves students addressing real-world business challenges in various global locations based on their preferences and experiences.”

He further explained, “At the beginning of the semester, students choose their preferred immersion locations, and assignments are made considering diversity in gender and nationality, ensuring a fair allocation of projects.”

Nwabufo’s comments aimed to clarify that Nigeria’s exclusion from the Harvard Business School program does not reflect negatively on the country’s global standing but rather aligns with the school’s structured educational approach.
