PORT HARCOURT – The Inter-party Advisory Council (IPAC), has condemned the improvised explosive device explosion that happened near the popular Hotel Presidential, along Aba road in Port Harcourt last week, criticizing the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Igbetokun, the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu and other security agencies for their prolonged silence over the matter.

IPAC Chairman in Rivers State, Solsuema Osaro, while condemning the unfortunate incident in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, said it was disheartening that such a condemnable act will occur in a state such as Rivers and the IGP, the NSA, the Commissioner of Police will keep mum a week after.

The IPAC Chairman argued that a statement ought to have been made to condemn the incident for the sake of fairness, equity and due diligence, calling on the security agencies to immediately launch a probe so as to unmask the perpetrators and prosecute them accordingly.

Osaro, emphasised that the ugly incident was orchestrated by enemies of the state to discredit the Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara and undermine the peace enjoyed in the state.

He said, “The Inter-party Advisory Council expresses her dismay about the unfortunate incident. Outrightly, it was uncalled for, there was no need for that protest because the state is in peace, the state is well governed by seasoned Governor and so that purported protest was masterminded to disrupt the peace and tranquility we have in Rivers State.

“And then you also found the IED exploded, we are not happy as citizens of Rivers State, we are not happy as Inter-party Advisory Council, we are not happy that such masterminded acts will occur in Rivers State and the worst of if is the quietness of the security agents, right from the IGP, the NSA, the Commissioner of Police and other agencies.

“It is expected that by proactiveness, a statement should have been made by now, it is expected that for fairness, equity and for due diligence, a statement ought to have been made by now, so the Inter-party Advisory Council is outrightly dismayed.

He added. “We are calling immediately, that let these agencies responsible for the security of lives and properties of Rivers State and in Nigeria should as a matter of urgency, come up with a statement, because we want to know what happened, we want to know who did that and we want to know why that was done, we want to know why such an explosive would be brought into the state to undermine the peace we have in Rivers State, to discredit the Governor of Rivers State, Sir Siminalayi Fubara.

“Therefore, we are not happy about it, we want the security agencies to take up responsibilities and come up tough, apprehend the perpetrators.”
