Judith Iwu Advocates Unity Respect In Nollywood

Independent 2024/5/20

This may not be the best of times for Nollywood and ace actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie if news emanating from the industry is anything to go by.

Mercy Johnson-Okojie has been in the eye of the storm after childhood friend Ify and a colleague Angela Okorie accused the actress of witchcraft and destiny theft in a video uploaded on Instagram.

The star actress was also the butt of controversy after another colleague, Yvonne Jegede, accused her of being unprofessional, difficult, and throwing tantrums at work. A statement that had thrown fans and Nollywood lovers into a frenzy.

However, foremost actress Judith Iwu has risen to the defence of Mercy, saying her critics don’t really know her.
In an interview with Daily Independent reporter, Iwu described the feud among the actresses as pointless and distasteful to the ears.

According to the Oga Madam star, Mercy is not just a senior colleague but also a sweet soul she has known for a long time. Describing Okorie as a “legit queen” in her own right, Iwu wondered why Okorie would descend so low, pointing out that the development paints Nollywood in a bad light.

“The fight between Mercy Johnson and Angela Okorie is highly distasteful and unnecessary. Mercy is a senior colleague that I have known and worked with; she’s a sweet soul and a very talented actress,” Iwu reiterated.

Calling on Nollywood practitioners to shun divisiveness and rather work together and be good role models, the thespian admitted that the industry comprises different talents from all walks of life, hence there must always be rivalry and unhealthy competition. Even blood sisters quarrel, she added, stressing that Nollywood is no exception.

Iwu, who won accolades for her role in Priceless Woman, observed that some diabolical people had come into Nollywood with the intent to inflict damage and solicited prayers for the practitioners.

According to her, the recent deaths in the movie industry had made Nigerians very emotional, hence ‘they can do and undo.”
Iwu also opened up on her dream to work someday soon alongside Hollywood A-listers like Brad Pitt, Vin Diesel, Idris Elba, and Terrence Howard, saying she is enamoured by their accomplishments.

Currently on location, the actress urged her fans to keep faith with her as she revealed she was working on a new project, a movie that would blow them away once it airs.

Iwu is known for her peculiar standout performances in her movies and gained prominence with her role in House of Trouble, following up with the likes of Nicest Gift to Men and Typhoid Typhoid and Malaria. She recently capped these with the award of an International Media Personality Certificate for her outstanding qualities as a role model to millions around the world.

The award was given by the John Terrence Media Ltd in partnership with the International Kingdom University, United State of America.
