Nightwing is likely coming to the new DC Universe, and one actor would be perfect as Dick Grayson for the upcoming Batman reboot. Nightwing is currently one of DC's most important characters in the comics. While Dick Grayson was always a popular hero, having been Batman's first Robin and then becoming Nightwing, the character now leads the DC universe's premiere superhero team, the Titans. After having last appeared in a film in 1997's Batman & Robin, Dick Grayson should return in Batman's The Brave and the Bold movie.

The reason for that is that DCU creative chief James Gunn has confirmed that Bat-Family characters will appear in Batman's DCU debut. Damian Wayne, the fourth male Robin, plays a major role in the film. As Dick Grayson was the first of Batman's Robins, and he has a special bond with Damian in the comics, Nightwing will likely be part of the film and future DCU movies and series. The DCU already has the perfect actor for Nightwing, and it is someone who has played Dick Grayson in live-action before.

Titans’ Brenton Thwaites Wants To Play Nightwing In The DCU

The Actor Has Plenty Of Experience In The Role

While Dick Grayson's last live-action movie appearance was back in 1997, the character has graced the small screen in recent years. Brenton Thwaites gave life to Dick, both as Robin and Nightwing, in DC's Titans. The series ran for four seasons, featuring plenty of important characters connected to Dick Grayson, such as several Teen Titans heroes, other Robins, Barbara Gordon, and even Batman himself. As such, Thwaites has a good idea of how to play Nightwing in an expansive DC world, which would be great for the DCU.

With Titans season 4 concluding the series in 2023, Thwaites' time as Dick Grayson has come to an end. However, the actor would like to continue playing his DC character. Speaking to SFX magazine (via CBR), Thwaites revealed that he would love to play Nightwing in James Gunn's DC Universe. The actor showed excitement at the prospect of appearing in a movie as Dick Grayson, saying, "It would be a great honor to bring Nightwing to the big screen." At the moment, casting for the DCU's Bat-Family has yet to begin. Check out Thwaites' full quote below:

"I have thought about that. I would love to do that. It’s not up to me, it’s up to Warner Bros. Things at Warner Bros are changing quite drastically. Their next slate of films could be really exciting. We just have to wait and see. It would be a great honor to bring Nightwing to the big screen."

Titans was a controversial series, making some edgy choices. Still, there was plenty to enjoy, and the best aspect of the series was how perfect the casting for some of DC's biggest heroes was. Chief among them is Thwaites as Nightwing, who led the show. The DCU could bring in the actor's already great Dick Grayson and improve him, making the hero lighter and allowing him to quip and have fun mid-fight and with his friends, a key Dick Grayson characteristic that Titans often ignored. A charismatic Nightwing who is part of an expansive Bat-Family is perfect for Brenton Thwaites.
