Porsche will keep internal combustion alive for the 911, with hybridization as the next step for its definitive sports car. The 992 generation has been designed with this in mind from the outset, and now a new Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe hybrid is coming out as part of the German automaker’s 2025 refresh of the 911, dubbed the 992.2. Fresh from three million miles of durability testing, the hybrid powertrain, co-developed with Porsche partner Rimac - is an impressive piece of kit, lapping the Nurburgring faster than the current 911 Turbo S. It will be fitted to the 911 GTS, along with a newly developed 3.6-liter flat six-cylinder engine, good for a combined 532 horsepower. The base 3.0-liter turbocharged engine gets a mild boost to 388 hp this year. The mechanical updates to the 2025 911 Carrera Coupe accompany an exterior facelift, an enhanced fully digital cockpit with more features, improved connectivity, and more standard equipment. It all comes at a higher price, too.

When Is The 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Coming Out?

After its official reveal in May, Porsche has set the release date for the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe and Cabriolet for the fall of 2024; orders are already open so we're execting the first models in the third quarter, although GTS trims will arrive at dealers in the USA later in the year.

After more than 3 million miles of testing on racetracks and roads across the world, development of the first-ever hybrid Porsche 911 is complete.

2025 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Price and Competition

The starting price of the 2025 Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe with RWD increases from $104,400 to $120,100, but this is compensated for by the addition of various new standard features. The Carrera GTS will have an MSRP of $164,900, and adding AWD to it will cost you an additional $7,800. These prices exclude the $1,995 destination fee. The Turbo models continue to be sold alongside the refreshed models in 2025 at the same prices as before.

The Chevrolet Corvette is an impressive rival, with its gas derivatives significantly undercutting the 911 on price. At the top of the tree, the 671-hp gas Z06 and 655-hp hybrid E-Ray are mightily impressive as well, especially considering their bargain pricing. Other rivals include the similarly priced Mercedes-AMG GT 55 and GT 63 S coupes, and the more expensive Aston Martin Vantage.

The mid-cycle refresh also means revised styling and optimized aerodynamics. The redesigned headlights retain their circular shape and four-point LED DRLs, but make use of LED-matrix technology to integrate all the lighting functions into one unit, freeing up space in the redesigned new fascia for larger air intakes. On the GTS, the fascia now contains five vertical air flaps that work in conjunction with adaptive under-body diffusers to direct airflow and minimize drag.

The LED taillights have been redesigned as well and have a bold 3D “PORSCHE” center script, while the new decklid grille meeting the base of the rear window has five strakes per side. The entire rear fascia is simplified, with a higher numberplate holder and restyled exhaust tips. An optional sports exhaust is available, and the GTS gets a trim-specific one. An optional Aerokit comprises special side body skirts, a fixed rear wing, and a SportDesign front fascia, all designed to reduce lift.

Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Dimensions

The Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe’s dimensions should closely approximate last year’s, save for the redesigned fascias possibly adding or removing a fraction of an inch. The GTS does gain 103 pounds due to its new powertrain and hybrid system, though. Due to the extra features fitted, the regular Carrera probably also gained a little weight, but we can’t be sure exactly how much until Porsche releases official figures.

Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Engine, Hybrid Powertrain, and Performance

The base twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter flat six-cylinder engine in the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is lightly massaged by fitting the previous GTS’s turbochargers and adopting the intercooler from the Turbo to produce 9 hp more, resulting in a fresh total of 388 hp, with torque remaining at 331 lb-ft. Transmitting its power to the rear wheels via an eight-speed PDK automatic transmission, its 0-60 sprint is now dispatched in 3.7 seconds with the Sport Chrono package - 0.1 seconds quicker than before. Top speed is up by one mph to 183 mph, too.

The GTS’s specs make for much more interesting reading, with its lightweight new racing-derived T-Hybrid system co-developed with partner Rimac. It's mated to a newly developed 3.6-liter boxer-six engine, equipped with an electrically driven turbocharger, while an electric motor supplying up to 40 hp and 110 lb-ft is installed in its strengthened eight-speed PDK transmission. A compact 1.9-kWh high-voltage lithium-ion hybrid battery sits behind the rear parcel shelf.

By itself, the gas engine is good for 478 hp and 420 lb-ft, but the total system output is 532 hp and 449 lb-ft. Its 0-60 sprint is done and dusted in 2.9 seconds, and it reaches 194 mph. A Carrera 4 GTS with all-wheel drive is available as well. Porsche says the new GTS is 8.7 seconds faster around the Nurburgring than its predecessor. Additional performance hardware henceforth standard on the GTS includes rear-axle steering.

Gas Mileage

No EPA-verified mpg figures were available for the 2025 911 Carrera Coupe at the time of writing, but given the minor changes to the base 3.0-liter powertrain, we don’t expect it to stray much from the current EPA estimates of 18/24/20 mpg for the PDK model. We have no idea what to expect from the brand-new hybrid powertrain in the GTS, so we’ll have to wait for the official figures to come out. For reference, the current non-hybrid GTS gets EPA ratings of 17/23/19 mpg with the PDK.

Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe Interior and Cargo

The interior of the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe is familiar, but with some important changes. Gone is the center-mounted analog rev counter in the gauge cluster that used to be flanked by dual TFT displays, and in comes a new customizable, curved 12.6-inch digital gauge cluster with seven possible display views as part of the new digital glass cockpit, including a classic one recalling early 911s. The center touchscreen still measures 10.9 inches and is the main operating hub for the PCM (Porsche Communication Management) infotainment system.

Additional connectivity functionality is added, such as scanning a QR code to log in to the PCM via Porsche ID. Video streaming is offered for the first time while parked, and the PCM can use apps such as Apple Music and Spotify natively without the need for a smartphone. Apple CarPlay is more deeply integrated, now able to display information in the gauge cluster, and availing Siri functionality.

Important, frequently accessed functions such as the drive modes, the start button, and the stalk for the assistance systems are grouped close to the steering wheel for quick operation. It’s the first time you’ll find a start button in a 911, too, while the newly standard wireless charging pad now resides in the (cooled) center-console storage bin.

More features are standard this year, specifically:

  • Ambient interior lighting
  • Driver-drowsiness detection
  • Lane-keep assist
  • Traffic-sign recognition.

The GTS additionally gains the Race-Tex Interior trim and upholstery package as standard, along with a Race-Tex roofliner. In a surprise move, the rear seats of the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe are now gone, so the car is sold as a two-seater standard, though you can opt them back in if you prefer at no extra cost. This means that the rear cabin is now more useful than before for storing additional luggage, as the trunk space the Porsche 911 Carrera Coupe offers in the front frunk is only 4.6 cubic feet, and the rear seats were mostly used for additional cargo space anyway. Porsche doesn’t supply a figure for the additional trunk volume behind the seats. Getting inside still requires a step down to road level and a duck to clear the 51-inch roofline, with enough room in front for adults.
