The Oyo Progressives Movement of the All Progressives Congress, (APC) has restated the commitment of the party to reclaim its leadership position in 2027 in Oyo state.

It also condemned the conduct of the just concluded election in the 33 local government areas of the state, describing it as nothing but a rape on the democracy.

The Movement in a statement issued at the end of its expressed its disappointment and frustration over the farcical Local Government elections that took place in Oyo State on the 27th April, 2024, and share the condemnation of our teeming members in the All Progressives Congress (APC) of the rape of democracy but urged the members of the party to remain steadfast and resolute in their commitment to the progressive values and ideals of the party.

The statement read in part, “It is a certainty that the APC in Oyo State is poised to reclaim its rightful position ahead of the 2027 elections.

‘In the midst of the current situation, we must remember that it is our commitment to service, our dedication to the party, and our unwavering belief in the progressive ideology that will ensure our victory in the end.

‘Let us not be discouraged by the temporary setbacks, rather, let us take this as an opportunity to regroup, refocus, and strategize for the next phase of our struggle. In deed, we should start organizing instead of agonizing.

“The light of our shared vision will eventually break through the pervading clouds of adversity.

‘To each and every one of you who stood up, spoke out, and remained true to the progressive cause, we salute you. You are the lifeblood of this movement, and we know that our strength lies in your resilience.

“As the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo once said, “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” This is a trying time, but it is not a time to falter in our resolve but a time to demonstrate an uncommon courage in the face of the Goliath that threatens the flourishing of democracy in Oyo State.

“The legacy of progressive politics in Oyo State is built on the sweat and sacrifice of many heroes, and we shall continue in that proud tradition.

“To the progressive aspirants of the APC in Oyo State, know that your contributions have not gone unnoticed.
Though the outcome of this purported election may have been disheartening, remember that this is merely a battle in a much longer war. The road ahead will not be easy, but we must press on, for the greater good of our party, our state, and our nation.

“In the coming months and years, we shall not rest until we have regained our rightful place at the forefront of progressive politics in Nigeria. We shall not forget the sacrifices of those who came before us, and we shall honor their memory by continuing to fight for ours is a good fight and cause.

“In conclusion, dear progressive aspirants and loyal members of APC in Oyo State, our leaders across the six zones of Oyo State offer their deepest sympathies, unwavering support and their undying commitment to the principles that brought us all together in this great struggle for democracy and enthronement of an egalitarian society .
Know that the progressive movement in Oyo State stands behind you, and will always be here to lend its strength, its wisdom, and its unflinching spirit to the cause”
