A religious body, “Jama’atul Nasrul Islam (JNI)” Kaduna state branch, has strongly appealed to wealthy individuals across Nigeria to provide food assistance to the poor to alleviate the country’s widespread hardship.

The call was made by the Chief Imam of Udawa Central Mosque, Husasaini Iliyasu, who’s also a key member of the JNI Executive in Kaduna State, during a discussion with Kaduna-based journalists on Monday, July 1, 2024.

Imam Iliyasu emphasized that government alone cannot addressed the severe hardship caused by the high cost of living.

He urged affluent Nigerians to step in and offer humanitarian aid, particularly in the form of food.

“There is a blessing in giving, and we must assist the poor with whatever we can to reduce the hardship in our land,” he said.

The Imam pointed out that since the removal of fuel subsidies, earlier this year, the prices of goods and services have surged, exacerbating the struggles of many Nigerians.

He also highlighted that banditry and kidnappings have further worsened the situation in the country.

Imam Iliyasu called on wealthy individuals nationwide to support the poor with food and other necessities.

Additionally, he urged market sellers to find ways to reduce the prices of essential commodities and appealed to non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and businesses to extend their assistance to those in need.
