The Nasarawa State Police Command has announced the arrest of three additional officers from the Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Agency (NAYEA) in connection with the recent escape of two motorcycle thieves from their custody.

Their arrest was confirmed by DSP Ramhan Nansel, the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, on Tuesday.

Nansel, while assuring the public that efforts are ongoing to rearrest the escaped suspects, noted that the detained officers have provided “useful statements”.

DAILY POST had reported that the incident occurred last week when NAYEA, formerly known as the Nasarawa Youth Empowerment Scheme (NAYES), arrested two individuals for stealing a motorcycle at Lavista, a popular eatery in Lafia, the state capital.

However, the suspects managed to escape from custody shortly after their arrest, resulting in widespread public criticism.

In response to the escape, Mr Abdullahi Bala Likita, General Manager of NAYEA, handed over the two officers on duty at the time of the incident to the police for further investigation and appropriate action.

DAILY POST reports that one of the fleeing suspects has been identified as Shanunu, a tailor residing in the Tudun Gwandara area of Lafia metropolis.
