Nana Yaa Jantuah, once the Public Relations and External Affairs Director of Ghana’s PURC, has revealed harrowing details of her arrest by the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI).

In an exclusive interview with Channel One TV’s Face to Face, Jantuah recounted her ordeal, alleging that she was subjected to degrading treatment, including being forcibly stripped naked and confined in a cell. She described feeling abandoned and mistreated despite her contributions to the country’s utilities sector, a stark reminder of the injustice that can befall even the most dedicated public servants.

Jantuah, along with Samuel Sarpong, the Executive Secretary of PURC, faced questioning in May 2017 over financial irregularities involving substantial sums from PURC funds. These irregularities were related to the misuse of funds for personal gain, as alleged by the BNI. Despite being released on bail the next day, Jantuah’s resignation from PURC followed shortly thereafter.

Reflecting on her traumatic experience, Jantuah expressed dismay over being disregarded despite pleas from colleagues for her retention due to her expertise. She recounted the physical toll of her detention, which she claims led to health complications requiring urgent medical attention, a stark reminder of the human cost of such treatment.

However, the BNI or government officials have not yet responded to these allegations. “I reported to BNI for three years, it’s like you have been incarcerated,” Jantuah disclosed, highlighting the enduring impact of her arrest.

Now seeking solace in faith, Jantuah recently revealed that she has embarked on a journey towards forgiveness for those responsible for her suffering.
