Lagos Govt demolishes illegal shanties in Sangotedo, others

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority, LAWMA monitoring and compliance team in collaboration with the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps has begun the demolition of illegal shanties and kiosks in different areas along the Lekki-Ajah expressway.

According to the Commissioner of Environment and Water Resource, Tokunbo Wahad, the areas affected include Sangotedo, Lakowe, and Awoyaya amongst other places in the state.

He added that the exercise would be a continuous one.

Sharing videos, via his X page on Monday, 1st of July, 2024 he wrote:

“Today, the #Lawma_gov Monitoring and Compliance team, in collaboration with #LAGESCOfficial began the demolition of illegal shanties and kiosks at Sangotedo, Lakowe, Awoyaya and other locations along the Lekki – Ajah expressway.

“These actions are crucial for maintaining public safety, reducing environmental hazards, and ensuring a cleaner, more organized community. By removing these illegal structures, we help prevent unsanitary living conditions, reduce the spread of epidemics, and create a safer, more conducive environment for all residents.
