List of Largest Cities In The World: There are reportedly over 10,000 cities in the world, but only some are large enough to create an entire category altogether, of being the ‘largest’. So for today, we thought of taking a look at these very cities, which have made a name for covering the most land and residing the most residents. We have found a list of the largest cities in the world by area, along with their population. The list was compiled by ‘Science Focus’.

List Of Top 10 Largest Cities In The World By Area And Population:

Tokyo

In the first place on the list of the world’s largest cities, along with their population, is Japan’s Tokyo. Needless to say, it is also the largest city in the world by population, with reportedly a population of 37.4 million people. It covers an area of 13,452 sq kms. With the city being this densely populated, it only makes sense that people in Tokyo often suffer in traffic and in jam-packed public transport. Housing is also a common issue in Tokyo.

Delhi

On the second spot, we have another Asian city; India’s Delhi- making it the second largest city in the world. With a reported population of 29.3 million people, the city has the land covering an area of 1,483 sq kms. Apart from congested housing, densely packed public transport, and heavy traffic, the city also never fails to NOT fall into the ‘most populated’ category. Poor quality air is a huge issue in India’s National Capital. The city was built centuries ago, which only adds to its problems of being unplanned in certain areas.

Shanghai

It seems like Asia is absolutely ‘winning’ the list. Ironically enough, it is not exactly a ‘win’, at least in terms of growth and development, as the third city in the list of the most largest and populated cities, is yet again an Asian city. China’s Shanghai, with a reported population of 26.3 million people, is the third largest city that covers an area of 6,340 sq kms, as per reports. Believe it or not, but years ago, Shanghai was hardly a city, let alone the largest city.

São Paulo

Finally breaking the streak, we have a South American city on the list; São Paulo. Brazil’s São Paulo is the fourth largest city in the world, with a population of 21.8 million people, as per reports. The city reportedly has an area of 1,521.11 sq kms, with a number of issues that its residents have been facing for far too long.

Mexico City

On the fifth spot on the list of the largest cities in the world with a dense population, we have Mexico’s Mexico City. The city is home to reportedly 21.6 million people and covers an area of 1,477 sq kms. The city, despite its own set of issues, is growing into one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas. It is also one of the largest cities in both continents, South and North America.

Cairo

Coming to the second half of the list, we have Egypt’s Cairo in the sixth spot. With reportedly a population of 20.4 million people, the city covers an area of 3,085 sq kms. Apart from being one of the largest cities, it also holds some of the most popular and beautiful tourist attractions like the ancient Egyptian Giza pyramid complex.

Dhaka

Coming to the seventh city on the list, we have another Asian city; Bangladesh’s Dhaka. The city covers an area of 306.4 sq kms, and reportedly has a population of 20.2 million people. The city is also popular for its rich culture and festivities.

Mumbai

Coming to the eighth spot on the list, we have another Indian city, which is also popularly known as the ‘City of Dreams’; Mumbai. However, achieving those very ‘dreams’ is not exactly that easy in Mumbai, mostly because of how densely populated it is. From its matchbox-sized expensive apartments to its populated local trains, the city has ample reasons behind it being a ‘difficult’ coastal city to live in. It has a population of 20.1 million people and reportedly covers 603.4 sq kms.

Beijing

Coming to the ninth city on the list, we have another city from China; Beijing. This otherwise beautiful city has a population of reportedly 19.4 million people and covers an area of 16,410.54 sq kms. It is also the second-largest city in the country.

Osaka

On the last spot on the list, we have Japan’s Osaka. The city reportedly has a population of 19.2 million people and will cover an area of 223 sq kms.
