The Assistant Inspector-General (AIG) of Police, Zone 6 Headquarters, Calabar, has frowned at the “unprofessional conduct” of some police officers who allegedly kidnapped and fraudulently extorted the sum of three million (3,000,000) from a victim.

The AIG gave the directive in a press release made available by the Zone’s Public Relations Officer, SP Nelson A. Okpabi, stating that a high powered investigation into the matter to uncover the facts behind the allegations for an informed disciplinary measure would be taken.

It would be recalled that five Police Officers attached to the Zone, while on patrol along Ikom-Calabar highway were alleged to have indulged in corrupt practices and unprofessional conduct – kidnapping a yet-to-be identified victim into a bush and forcefully extorted three million Naira.

The release disclosed that the AIG’s zero tolerance to crime and criminality, has vowed to ensure appropriate disciplinary measures are taken against the erring officers to serve as deterrent to others.

The AIG said the Zone 6 Headquarters Calabar, which has recently been adjudged to have a very low crime rate, will not tolerate any criminality amongst officers that are saddled with the responsibility of crime prevention and order maintenance.

He promised that the investigation and disciplinary measures including trial and possible prosecution would be made to the public in due course when investigation is concluded.

“Members of the public are enjoined to go about their lawful activities and report erring Police Officers to supervising authorities without hesitation.”
