AbdulRazaq, Bago hail Tinubu over Sokoto-Badagry superhighway

Blueprint 2024/10/6

Kwara state governor, Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and his Niger state counterpart, Alhaji Umar Bago, have said that President Bola Ahmed Renewed Hope Agenda was making the dream of a new Nigeria possible with the federal government’s legacy project – The Sokoto Badagry superhighway.

This is just as the Minister of Works Engineer David Umahi said the federal government was executing 18 legacy projects in Kwara state under the renewed hope agenda of the administration of President Bola Tinubu.

The trio of AbdulRazaq, Bago and Umahi said this while speaking at a stakeholders meeting on the alignment of Niger state 122km and Kwara state’s 188 km segments of the 1000 kilometers Sokoto- Badagry superhighway, held in Ilorin, Kwara state capital.

Umahi said 10 out of the 18 contractors handling the project in Kwara state were not “dong well”, adding that their contracts would be reviewed while the remaining had a mandate to deliver latest by 2025.

The minister lamented that many contractors who ought to be on sites were in Abuja lobbying for variations while they were supposed to be executing projects for which they have been mobilised.

“Those who have received mobilisation, we will ask the EFCC to recover our money from them”, he said.

He asked those asking for variation and negotiations to return to sites as the federal government would not consider such.

“Stop wasting your time, I have the mandate of the president to terminate the project of any defaulting contractor. No variation, no negotiating and if we terminate your contract, you will not get another project in the next 3 years”, he said.

Umahi said the Tinubu administration “is spending itself out of recession by investing in infrastructures” which would in turn translate to quick economic recovery for Nigerians.

Kwara state governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq represented by his deputy, Mr Kayode Alabi, said the proposed road project attested to the bold vision of Tinubu to develop infrastructure, which would enhance national connectivity and help to grow the economy.

Also speaking, Niger state governor, Alhaji Umar Bago, said “the Tinubu administration has made a dream of a new Nigeria possible” by executing the project which had been conceived decades ago.
