Miquella's crosses comprise Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree's resident collect-a-thon, but the reward for finding them all isn't initially made clear. There are 13 of these monuments scattered across Shadow of the Erdtree's map. Many of them are located near important locations the player is almost certain to pass naturally on their journeys: central Sites of Grace, important NPCs, entrances to Elden Ring's legacy dungeons, et cetera. But a few of them are slightly more out of the way, requiring a little more active searching, or exploration of optional locations and mini-dungeons.

Per Elden Ring lore, Miquella's crosses all mark spots where the demigod abandoned parts of his corporeal body and soul, as he traveled through the Land of Shadow on his journey toward godhood. Shadow of the Erdtree is the story of the Tarnished and their ersatz allies as they trace Miquella's footsteps, trying to determine where exactly he was going, and what he intended to do once he got there. Those details will have to wait until Elden Ring's DLC ending, but in the meantime, interacting with each cross reveals just a bit more about Miquella's path.

What Happens When You Find All Miquella's Crosses In Elden Ring's DLC?

Unfortunately, there's no ultimate reward for finding all of Miquella's crosses in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree - the real treasure is the compatriots the Tarnished made along the way. Finding the crosses and tracing Miquella's path is what brings

and her allies in the DLC together. It's an important lore conceit, and a central part of the DLC's story, but finding all of them doesn't provide the player with any special weapons, armor, or Talismans in Elden Ring. It's really just a way for Shadow of the Erdrtree to dispense story beats as the player explores, making them feel like they're getting closer to the heart of an intriguing mystery.

It's also not necessary to find Miquella's crosses to progress the many quest lines that comprise the story of Shadow of the Erdtree. Throughout the DLC, several NPCs will give the Tarnished

with interpretive indications of where to find Miquella's next stop. However, none of these characters' quests actually progress when the player finds one or all of Miquella's crosses. Although Ansbach does ask the Tarnished to report back to him when they find a cross, he scarcely even acknowledges when they do so. The actual deciding factors in quest progression are exhausting character dialogue, exploring new locations, and completing various dungeons.

The only crosses that unlock new dialogue for Ansbach are the one in Belurat, the one near the Scaduview Cross Site of Grace, and the one near the Cerulean Coast Cross Site of Grace.

Miquella's Crosses Are Usually Located Next To Individual Rewards

A Reliable Way To Get Scadutree Fragments & Empyrean-Blood Burgeons

While there's no reward for finding all of Miquella's crosses, rare items are often found near individual crosses. They're a reliable source of finding Scadutree Fragments , important upgrade materials that players can use to gain DLC-specific buffs. Once the player has found enough Scadutree Fragments in Elden Ring's DLC, they can combine them at a Site of Grace to increase their attack power and defense. These bonuses only apply in the Land of Shadow, however - once the player returns to a base game area, they'll temporarily lose them.

In addition, rare crafting materials called

often grow next to Miquella's crosses. These items are useless on their own, but each one can be combined with a and a Beast Horn to craft a Charming Stick. These are incredibly useful items that turn enemies into allies on a successful hit. While they're not much help against Shadow of the Erdtree's story bosses, they can be used to turn large enemy mobs against field bosses (or themselves).

Players will need Forager's Brood Cookbook [7] to craft Charming Sticks. This crafting recipe can be found by healing the injured Forager outside the Church of the Crusade (either by using an AoE healing spell or dropping a

next to it), then reloading the area and speaking to the Forager.

So, while there's no need to find all of Miquella's crosses in order to progress the story of the DLC, or claim some unique reward, it's always a good idea to check them out when they appear. Each of them not only reveals an interesting tidbit of the DLC's lore, but also provides the player with some useful crafting and upgrade materials. Finding Miquella's crosses is thus an important part of Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, even if it doesn't directly impact the plot.
