Plans have been approved for a 70-bed care home on the site of a former frozen food factory.

The Birds Eye site in Ladysmith Road, Grimsby, closed in 2005 with a fire destroying much of the building two years later.

Homes and commercial space have been built on the land and the new facility will be built on a corner of the site.

The three-storey building will also have an adjoining block of eight one-bed flats.

According to the Local Democracy Reporting Service (LDRS), there were no objections to the plans.

Developer Country Court Care Ltd said the home would create 35 jobs with 25 full-time roles.

Each of the building's three floors will have a medicine room, nurses’ stations and day space areas.

There will also be an open "winter garden" area on the top two floors.

It will also have a car park with 30 spaces, including EV charging point.

The project was approved under delegated planning officer powers, the LDRS said.

In their decision to approve the scheme, planning officers at North East Lincolnshire Council said: “The proposal would not harm the area character nor the amenity of nearby neighbours and, in fact, may support the local businesses in the area.”
