Throughout WWE history, there have been some standout triple threat matches which have enthralled fans, created memories, and made stars.

TheSportster’s rating system will take a look back over Hall’s in-ring career to see which of his matches were the very best. Despite his presence, aura, and talent, Hall’s list of classics isn’t too extensive, which is quite surprising. These ratings will be compared to those from Cagematch.Net and Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Scott Hall was on the losing side of a Traditional Tag Team Elimination match at Survivor Series 1995, but he still put in a strong showing, mostly when he shared the ring with iconic rival Shawn Michaels. Speaking of Michaels, he was the clear star of this match, and the bout really picked up when he got in the ring with both Hall and Owen Hart. Ahmed Johnson made a great impression here with an energetic performance that lifted the crowd off its feet. Not everything was perfect, with some clunky action and a match which felt far too long.

Despite still being quite green, Scott Hall put in a good showing against Bret Hart at the 1993 Royal Rumble event, challenging for the WWE Championship. Hall’s heel work was very strong, countering the underdog babyface performance of Hart, who really held this match together. The downpoints came with the selling, as Hall was inconsistent when selling the leg which did take you out of the action.

8 nWo Vs. Ric Flair, Roddy Piper & Kevin Greene (WCW Slamboree 1997)

Despite Kevin Greene not being a professional wrestler, the NFL star managed to hold his own in this match which lit the crowd alight, who came unglued for everything that took place in the ring between these six men. Scott Hall was part of the nWo team, playing his role well as a heel. Was it the cleanest match in the world? No, it wasn’t, but in terms of entertainment value it was one of the best matches on the Slamboree 1997 card.

7 Scott Hall & Syxx Vs. The Steiners (WCW Nitro 10/13/1997)

On an episode of WCW Nitro in 1997, Syxx stepped in for Kevin Nash to team with Scott Hall to defend the WCW World Tag Team Championships against The Steiner Brothers. Although the match was only just over 5 minutes in length, it was a memorable sprint and one of Hall’s better bouts in WCW. The crowd elevated it a great deal, popping for everything. Syxx was bumping like crazy, The Steiner Brothers were explosive and impactful, and despite a questionable finish The Steiners getting the gold was still a good thing.

6 Razor Ramon Vs. Shawn Michaels (WWE RAW 08/01/1994)

At the time, a match going for three segments and lasting over 20 minutes on Monday Night RAW was a rarity, and it was a nice change which helped to make Scott Hall vs. Shawn Michaels feel very important.

Hall’s dominance over the faster and more agile Michaels was the main story of the in-ring work, with it being a simple structure but done well. Their chemistry was on full show and there were some hot nearfalls, though the interference from Diesel left a sour taste.

5 Team nWo Vs. Team WCW (WCW Fall Brawl 1996)

Team WCW took on the nWo inside the iconic WarGames match, in a bout which is a divisive one. The team of Sting, Lex Luger, Arn Anderson and Ric Flair took on Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash, Scott Hall, and nWo Sting. The last name on that list is a big reason as to why some fans aren’t as fond. Either way, the crowd still enjoyed the match, coming unglued for all the huge stars in the cage. There were many interweaving storylines, which were all told well.

4 nWo Vs. Sting, Randy Savage & Lex Luger (WCW Bash at the Beach 1996)

This match might not have been a technical marvel, nor was it especially long, but this was all about storytelling and one of the most incredible moments in professional wrestling history, which is why this is given such a high rating. Hulk Hogan’s heel turn, joining up with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall to form the nWo, was an unbelievable moment and drew some of the biggest heat from the crowd ever in the WCW.

3 Diesel & Shawn Michaels Vs. Razor Ramon & The 1-2-3 Kid (WWE Action Zone Oct. 30 1994)

This is well and truly a hidden gem of a match, as Diesel and Shawn Michaels (who were Intercontinental Champion and WWE Champion respectively) defended the WWE World Tag Team Championships against the 1-2-3 Kid and Razor Ramon in a very fun, wonderfully wrestled match on WWE Action Zone. The selling was strong, the sequences were great, and the final portion of the match was dramatic and unpredictable.

CM Punk already has a long list of classic matches in his WWE career, and he's looking to add a few more with his latest run!

Although Hall and Shawn Michaels had a better ladder match previously, their rematch at SummerSlam 1995 was still a very strong encounter which built from their first. Some of the spots were a little more clunky and convoluted, but for the most part it was still enjoyable, tense, and their use of the ladders was focused and logical. For whatever reason, the crowd weren’t especially loud during this one, which was a shame, but it might have come down to the confusing face/heel dynamic between the two.
