Three employees of the Lebanese-owned Fouani Company have been detained by Lagos police for allegedly participating in the kidnapping of four Lebanese nationals last month while sailing from Apapa to Victoria Island.

Those arrested include a driver and other company staff. The arrests followed thorough investigations after the Marine police, aided by the Nigerian navy, rescued the victims at Orogbo Iddo.

Initial resistance from the victims’ families, the Lebanese community, and close associates to involve the police posed challenges, but detectives from the Commissioner of Police’s special squad proceeded with the investigation post-kidnapping.

Sources disclosed that the kidnappers received nearly $1.5 million in ransom before releasing the victims, who were then taken to their residence in Banana Island.

Following this, the Commissioner of Police directed his officers to apprehend the remaining kidnappers. The detectives’ efforts paid off, uncovering that the operation was aided by insiders within the company.

The arrested suspects were said to have confessed to detectives, revealing details of their past operations both inside and outside the company.

Police sources indicated that the company’s previous reluctance to involve law enforcement in kidnapping cases allowed these incidents to continue with the complicity of some employees.

Subsequently, the Commissioner of Police issued directives to his team to apprehend the fleeing kidnappers.

The detectives’ efforts were successful, revealing that the operation had been conducted with the help of insiders within the company.

The arrested suspects were said to have confessed to detectives, providing details of their past operations both inside and outside the company.

Police sources stated that the company’s previous reluctance to involve law enforcement in kidnapping cases enabled these incidents to persist with the involvement of some of their employees.
