Police Arraign Man For Allegedly Stealing Valuables Worth N1.3m

THE police in Ibadan on Friday arraigned a 30-year-old man, Azeez Hamzat, for allegedly stealing valuables worth N1.3 million.

Hamzat is facing a charge of shop breaking and stealing, before an Ona-Ara Magistrates’ Court.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Adeshina Folaranmi, told the court that the defendant committed the offences on June 29 at 12.30 p.m. at Delebayo, Muslim area of Ibadan.

Folaranmi said the defendant broke into a shop belonging to the complainant, Mr Oladeji Abubakiri, and stole some items.

Abubakiri said the items included generator, fan, clothes, phones and laptops.

“The defendant was caught and handed over to the police,” the prosecutor said.

Folaranmi said the offences contravened Sections 413 and 390(9) of the Criminal Law of Oyo State, 2000.

The Magistrate, Mr Ayorinde Ayo-Alagbe, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

Ayo-Alagbe, however, adjourned the case until Aug. 13 for mention.
