Speedy response of SAPS members leads to the confiscation of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition

The swift response of police members resulted in the arrest of two males on charges of possession of unlicensed and prohibited firearms and ammunition and the possession of presumed stolen property in isolated incidents.

Worcester police members were busy with patrols on Thursday 04 July 2024 at around 23:40 when they were alerted to trace a White VW Polo which was taken during a house robbery in Jansen Crescent Robertson. They were informed that the vehicle was travelling in their direction. The members gave chase when they spotted the vehicle on the Robertson Road. The driver of the VW Polo failed to stop on command and a high speed chase ensued, resulting in the driver to losing control where after the vehicle overturned. The police members searched the area and found an unknown man hiding in nearby bushes. During the search of the vehicle they recovered a 9mm pistol, an imitation firearm and presumed stolen property. They detained the adult male on charges of possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition as well as the possession of presumed stolen property.

In an unrelated intervention, Grassy Park police conducted tracing operation to trace wanted suspects in the early hours of Friday 05 July 2024. Upon entering a residence in Rosedale Court in Ottery, they apprehended a person of interest, searched the premises and confiscated a 9mm pistol with ammunition. They detained the adult male on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Once charged the suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Worcester and Wynberg Magistrates’ court on the mentioned charges.
