The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) on Monday June 24th inaugurated the Armed Aviation Security (AVSEC) unit to ensure optimal security in and around Nigerian airports.

It follows the Presidential approval granted the FAAN Aviation Security Department to bear arms in accordance with ICAO standards, and subsequent training of a selected number of staff of AVSEC Department.

In a statement on X on Monday, Festus Keyamo, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, said that the special unit will help curb the menace of illegal activities around Nigerian airports.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) has urged Content Creators to seek approval before creating videos or taking pictures for commercial purposes on its public transportation infrastructure, including the Lagos Rail Mass Transit (LRMT) Blue Line.

In a statement, LAMATA said seeking permission will help maintain order on Lagos State’s public transportation system and ensure filming activities don’t disrupt operations or passenger safety.

Saglev Electric Cars, a pioneer in the Nigerian Electric Vehicle (EV) market, has commenced the production of battery-powered vehicles at its state-of-the-art assembly plant in Ikorodu, Lagos.

The company had earlier revealed that its Electric Vehicle (EV) offerings will solve many challenges in Nigeria, including reducing the cost of motoring and commuting as well as reducing carbon emissions.

Last October, Saglev’s CEO, Sam Faleye, while highlighting the merits of electric vehicles at a press conference held in Lagos, said that “electric vehicles are actually affordable, needs less maintenance, costs less to charge, and does not require fueling.”

The two main transport unions in Lagos, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) on Thursday agreed to embrace government Bus Reform Initiative (BRI) and formalized their operations.

The move, facilitated by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation, will be piloted on the Lekki – Epe Expressway corridor.

Operators of high-capacity buses will be allowed to run their buses and subjected to the regulation of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), while minibuses will be deployed to the inner routes.
