Rotary Workshop Empowers Gombe Journalists To Promote Reproductive, Maternal, Child Health

A non governmental organisation ‘Rotary International’ has organised a three-day training to journalists selected from different media outlets in Gombe State to equip them with the knowledge and skills to effectively report on Reproductive, Maternal and Child Health (RMCH) issues.

Over 20 journalists attended the workshop held at Laylah Hotel, Gombe where they were taught on harmful practices affecting RMNCH, and interpreting health data and terminologies.

According to the Rotary official, Mary Alaje, the workshop aimed to promote accurate and responsible reporting on RMCH issues, addressing myths and misconceptions, and promoting positive role models.

She added that the organisation’s ultimate goal is to improve the health and well-being of women, children, and adolescents in Nigeria.

Aside that, Alaje stated that the workshop was part of Rotary’s ongoing efforts to reduce maternal and child mortality rates by educating media practitioners so they could further enlighten the public.

Also speaking, the state commissioner for health, Dr Habu Dahiru, commended Rotary for organizing the workshop, emphasising the importance of effective reporting in promoting health programmes.
