Motorists plying Obollo-Afor, Oturkpo road in-between Enugu and Benue states, Saturday, told THE WHISTLER that the road has become a nightmare to them.

Our correspondent observed that the over two kilometre bad portion of the road, apart from being full of potholes is also waterlogged. Two lorries were seen lying flat beside each other at a particular spot.

“We are begging the federal government to come to our help,” a driver, Benjamin Ikyur, said. He continued, “I drive on this road everyday, and it is hell. When they said the road has been awarded for reconstruction by the federal government, we were happy. We had expected them to repair some bad sections of the road, but nothing has been done.

“The work has commenced on the Benue side, but nothing is happening here. We really need help.”

Centus Nweze, a resident of Amalla, a border community between Benue and Enugu which is badly affected by the dilapidation, said, “We are in pains. During rainy seasons, we suffer because  the road is always waterlogged. During dry season, we are in for air pollution.

“I was told that construction has started from the 9th Mile axis of Enugu road. But they should help us by providing some palliatives on this dead road. Vehicles fall down every day on this road.”

Our correspondent reports that the federal government, through the Federal Ministry of Works, is currently clearing the marked portions of Makurdi-Enugu road awarded for dualisation.
