Official: Prospective coaches grilled for Super Eagles top post

thetalk.ng 2024/10/5

SCORENigeria has been reliably informed by a top official that several prospective foreign coaches who wish to lead the Super Eagles have this week been interviewed for the post.

These interviews have both in-person and virtual, according to an official, who will not wish to be named.

The identities of the coaches have yet to be ascertained.

The visit of both NFF president Ibrahim Gusau and Sports Minister John Enoh to London early this week has been shrouded in secret and so far there has not been an official statement to this effect.

However, the official confirmed that discussions are on-going with both the NFF president and Sports Minister in attendance.

Interestingly, it was the Sports Minister who had first insisted on the appointment of a local coach.

However, with the country’s 2026 World Cup in shambles, he is now in forefront in the hunt for a foreign coach who will do the impossible by qualifying the Super Eagles to the next World Cup in USA, Canada and Mexico.

The NFF have announced a foreign coach will be appointed before September, when the 2025 AFCON qualifiers will begin.

Nigeria have been drawn in Group D alongside 2026 World Cup qualifying rivals Rwanda and Benin as well as Libya.
