A dash cam owner has caught the heart-stopping moment a car sped through an intersection on a red light.

The dramatic footage, shared by Dash Cam Owners Australia, unfolded in Brisbane on Monday in Sunnybank Hills.

The frightening scene recorded at the intersection of Hellawell and Beaudesert roads shows a blue Mazda 3 speeding south on Beaudesert Road.

The hatchback ploughs through the intersection at high speed, despite the light having been red for at least 18 seconds.

As he does so, he crashes into the front of a white Toyota hatchback.

The Toyota spins, also colliding with a red Mazda SUV next to it, before coming to a stop with clear damage to the front of the vehicle.

A group of tradies in high-vis acted quickly, rushing to help the driver of the Toyota.

However, one of them is seen chasing down the blue Mazda driver who gets out of his car and wanders off to the side.

The tradie is assisted by other pedestrians as he catches the driver, seeming to hold him in place.

Facebook commenters were quick to condemn the actions of the blue car, and praised the tradie who rushed to stop the driver.

“God love the tradie who spotted old mate casually walking away from his stupidity and crash tackled him,” one said.

Another commenter said her friend was involved in the crash, and although it is unclear which car was she in,  said she was happy glad her friend was still alive.

“Please rest up and get better soon. I’m glad your angels were looking after you yesterday,” she said.

Another Facebook user said he was the owner of the dash cam footage.

“I was the truck that got this footage, she was certainly very lucky to be alive, a few seconds later and it would have been so much worse- I hope she’s resting up and recovering as well as possible,” he said.

Police confirmed a 26-year-old  had been charged following an alleged traffic crash in Sunnybank Hills on Monday.

“It will be alleged at approximately 9.45am a blue Mazda 3 was travelling south on Beaudesert Road when it failed to stop at a red light near Hellawell Road,” a spokesperson told SkyNews.com.au.

“It will be further alleged the car then stuck two other vehicles, a Mazda CX30 and a Toyota Yaris. The driver of the Mazda 3 was taken into police custody at the scene.”

She said the driver was taken into police custody at the scene and was given a notice to appear for dangerous operation of a vehicle and driving under the influence.

The Carseldine man is set to appear at Richlands Magistrates Court on August 6.
